Support The Williams Collection
on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy

As recently as two decades ago, you would have had a difficult time locating books on sexual orientation law in a law school library. No courses were taught on the subject. No law journals were devoted to it. Then, scholars and advocates had to start from scratch. On their own they had to create the ideas and theories that would advance lesbian and gay civil rights.

A lot has changed in the past twenty years. Now, courses, law review articles, and books exist to help scholars and advocates study the field of sexual orientation law. However, until now, there has been no comprehensive collection of works to support research in this field. The Williams Collection fills this critical need.

The Williams Collection on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy, located in UCLA School of Law's Hugh & Hazel Darling Law Library, is an international, research-level collection of works in all types of media. Library staff will be available to assist scholars with research, will maintain and expand the collection, and will publish a periodic bibliography of its titles. The Williams Institute Reading Room and Collection were made possible through the generous donation of Charles R. Williams and an anonymous donor.

Book by Book: Become a Friend of The Williams Collection

The Williams Institute invites you to participate in building this new resource for the study of sexual orientation law by becoming a Friend or Scholar of The Williams Collection. The Friends of The Williams Collection program allows you to place a personalized bookplate in one newly purchased book that will be part of The Williams Collection. Your $100 gift will support a critical acquisition needed in this field while acknowledging your gift or honoring a loved one, friend, or colleague.

The Opportunities

Become a Friend of the Williams Collection: A gift of $100 enables the acquisition of one book for the Williams Collection. A personalized bookplate will be placed in the newly purchased book as recognition of your gift.

Become a Williams Collection Scholar: A gift of $500 enables the acquisition of six books for the Williams Collection. Personalized bookplates will be placed in each of the newly purchased books as recognition of your support.

Recognition

When you make your gift to the Friends of The Williams Collection Fund, a letter of acknowledgment and copy of the bookplate will be sent to you, the honoree, or their family. In addition, your name will be listed in the UCLA School of Law’s annual Honor Roll of Donors.
