This course provides an overview of a variety of issues of current importance in the health care field. Attention will be paid both to understanding legal doctrine and critically assessing public policy issues. Topics covered will include traditional concerns of health care law such as the duty to treat, informed consent, and malpractice liability; financing and delivery issues such as insurance coverage and managed care regulation; and selected issues in bioethics such as the right to die, physician-assisted suicide, and organ transplantation. Active class participation is required and will be factored into final grades along with a take-home examination.
