Indigenous people all over the world are seeking the return of property and compensation for property taken during the course of colonization, including rights in land and other natural resources; rights in physical objects like art, antiquities, and human remains; and intellectual property rights in aspects of indigenous knowledge and culture. These efforts are taking a wide range of forms, from litigation to political action to outright violence. In this seminar, students will write a substantial paper and lead a class discussion on a topic relevant to these claims.
