Critical Race Studies at 10: Building our Home
CRS 2013 Symposium & Inaugural Alumni Celebration and Fundraising Dinner
As we celebrate our 10th year, we have much to reflect on and be proud of in our work to support scholarship and dialogue around issues of race and the law.
Our 2013 CRS Symposium celebrates the work of over a decade of graduates and honors the legacy of one of the most important figures in Critical Race Theory—Professor Derrick Bell. His racial justice activism, advocacy, and scholarship helped to build the home we call CRS. This year’s symposium not only acknowledges his profound achievement and contribution, but it reminds all of us in the CRS family how vital and important the work we do together is. This year we’ll have the opportunity to commemorate our work together at our inaugural Alumni Celebration & Fundraising Dinner, with proceeds going to establish the Derrick Bell Critical Race Studies Scholarship for students dedicated to advancing the goals of our program - to think, to teach, and to transform the quest for racial justice.
We look forward to having you join us for this unique opportunity to connect with fellow alumni and colleagues in a festive atmosphere, enjoying great food and wine, lively music and the thought-provoking comedy and political satire of our MC, W. Kamau Bell, star of FX’s Totally Biased.
We appreciate your participation and support of the symposium, dinner and scholarship fund. With your generous support, we can continue to support and encourage a new generation of legal scholars and practitioners as we create a more just and equitable future.
Sincerely,

UCLA School of Law is a State Bar of California approved MCLE provider. This activity qualifies for 4.5 hours of general MCLE credit.

Established in 2000, UCLA Law’s Critical Race Studies Program (CRS) is the premier institutional setting for the study of the intersection between race and the law. The only program of its kind, CRS is anchored by the most renowned scholars whose research represents the cutting edge of legal scholarship, and the program has quickly emerged as a training ground for a new generation of practitioners, scholars, and advocates committed to racial justice.
