Criminal Procedure: Policing Poverty

This course examines topics where the legal and administrative regulation of poverty and crime intersect with policing. The course will provide an opportunity to analyze the doctrine that limits or expands police power over the lives of poor people. To this end, we will cover aspects of the Fourth
and Eighth Amendments, and disability law. The course will also review prominent theories of poverty management and the role of the police in maintaining race and class hierarchies.
