Supporting UCLA Law via the school's the Dean's Discretionary Fund, the unrestricted fund which supports all facets of our school's misison, has never been more necessary. Unrestricted donations are the lifeblood of our school. During fiscal year 2011-2012, these unrestricted gifts to the school totaled just over $1.8 million. The surge in support has increased our alumni participation-in-giving to an incredible 30%!

Coming at a time of painful budget news from both the state and university, and in-state tuition now exceeding $47,000 per year, the unprecedented responsiveness and generosity of the school’s friends and alumni is absolutely critical and greatly appreciated.

The philanthropic culture of the School of Law is evolving in response to the budgetary reality of continually shrinking state monetary support. Unrestricted annual gifts provide the dean with the flexibility to respond to the school’s most critical needs as they arise. For example, faculty retention and recruitment decisions are extremely time-sensitive and competitive. Unforeseen expenditures also arise in providing for student scholarships, maintaining the quality of library and technology acquisitions and support, and building student outreach services.
