Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Across the Globe: Rights, Research & Results

Save the date for the Williams Institute 14th Annual Update!

Over the past decade the international community has shown increasing support for the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) people.  Discussions and disputes about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity have become common in courts, legislatures and international bodies around the world.  Governments and NGOs are giving greater attention to questions of human development, economic growth and poverty as they relate to sexual orientation and gender identity issues.  Programs to eliminate poverty, for example, can only be fully successful if LGBTI people are included. While the need for knowledge and evidence grows, researchers, policymakers, and advocates are seeking increased capacity to engage in data collection and analysis to better understand the lives of LGBTI people.
