Students in Shapiro CourtyardTo foster a sense of community and create an environment of mutual support, the first-year class is divided into four sections of about eighty students, with the same section throughout the entire year. The education provided by this shared experience has long remained a source of intellectual excitement and close friendships for UCLA students. Two of these courses meet in small sections of about thirty-five to forty students each. Faculty teaching these small sections employ teaching methods that increase participation and provide students with extensive feedback on their progress.

The first year Schedule of Classes for 2011-12 is available below; we will assign students to sections in early August.  All sections have classes that meet five days a week throughout the day.

The law school academic year begins in mid-August with a Fall semester of 14 weeks.  After Fall semester final examinations and winter break in December, classes resume early in January for another 14 week semester that ends, following Spring semester exams, in mid-May.
