This semester, the constitutional law seminar will focus on the right to keep and bear arms. We will examine the philosophical and historical origins of the arms right; the controversy over the original meaning of the Second Amendment; the well developed right to bear arms jurisprudence under state constitutional law; the reasoning and implications of the landmark Supreme Court decision in District of Columbia v. Heller; and various issues of firearms policy, including licensing, concealed carry of firearms; assault weapons bans; race and guns; and liability of gun manufacturers for criminal misuse of guns.
