Now you can buy a Mac with the ease of mind that we are here to support your Apple device. To make your experience a pleasant one there are a few points you’ll need to be aware of.

In order for Examsoft to work properly your Mac must meet these requirements:

    • Examsoft will only work on an Intel based Apple
    • You will need to have at least the 10.5 (Leopard) running on your Apple.
    • Older versions of OSX (10.4 and below) and Bootcamp are no longer supported.
    • You will need to purchase or have a valid copy of Windows XP or Vista.
    • It is recommended that you have at least 15-20GB of free space on your Hard Drive.

    If you have Lion:
    • Go here for instructions on how to play video and audio content from ERes.
    • Examsoft is now officially supported.

It is recommended to install Sophos Anti-Virus on your Mac.

I know, I know, you’re saying “Macs don’t get viruses!” It’s true that we have enjoyed many years of safe virus free computing but that can’t last forever. As Mac computers get more popular they will soon be the target of malicious intent. So let’s just practice safe computing and install an Anti-Virus program on your computer. UCLA provides a (free) program called Sophos. It’s always updated and always free. How cool is that?! You can download it by clicking on the BOL Sophos Anti-Virus page: http://www.bol.ucla.edu/software/sophos/

All you need is your BOL user name and password.

For privacy please turn off all your sharing capabilities.

Macs are great for sharing music, video, pictures and documents when you are at home or in the dorm but when you bring your Mac to school do you really want me to have access to all of your personal information? You may not know it but all of your fellow classmates will be able to view, listen, modify or even DELETE anything on your hard drive. So please do yourself a favor and shut this off under “System Preferences” > “Sharing”.

Please don’t bit torrent here at the Law School.

The content you may be downloading is illegal and secondly it might put your computer in a quarantine status. What that means to you is your computer will go into a “lock down” mode and you will not be able to “surf” the internet. You will then be instructed to run a virus scan so your computer can be cleared of any malicious activity.

Where can I buy a Mac for a great price?

Go to any retail store or purchase online and the price is always the same. Typically Mac’s never go on sale. Right?! Not at the UCLA Computer Store.

You can get a Mac that has been reduced as much as 30-40% off. This is a great resource for hardware and software discounts. Please check with them periodically as their inventory and pricing vary.
