JoAnna Esty teaches the Counseling Emerging Technologies and Enterprises IP Clinic. She is a registered patent attorney and an experienced IP litigator, whose technical areas of practice include computer software and hardware, the Internet, telecommunications and biotechnology. Formerly a partner at Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard & Smith LLP, she is currently the managing partner at Majesty Law Group.
After receiving her undergraduate degree in chemical engineering, Esty worked as an engineer. During her time at the Research and Development Division of Walt Disney Imagineering, Esty worked on leading edge technologies including polymer chemistry, materials science, environmental science, electronics, computer science and ride systems.
Esty has taught an intellectual property course and is the past Chair of the State Bar of California's Intellectual Property Section. Esty is also active in the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and spoke at the 2008 Annual Meeting on IP Issues in Litigation.
