Jyoti Nanda

Jyoti Nanda teaches in the Epstein Program in Public Interest Law & Policy. As a core faculty member of the Critical Race Studies Program at UCLA School of Law, Professor Nanda’s teaching and research interests include juvenile justice, public interest advocacy and civil rights. She teaches the EPILP section of the Lawyering Skills course as well as a Youth & Justice seminar on juvenile delinquency. She has also co-taught Public Policy Advocacy and Fact Investigation clinical courses with Gary Blasi. In 2008, Professor Nanda received a grant from the Center for Community Foundation to launch the Juvenile Justice Project, a collaborative project focused on addressing educational issues and the racial disparity within the juvenile delinquency system in Los Angeles County. Prior to joining the faculty at UCLA School of Law, Professor Nanda was a staff attorney and Skadden fellow at the NAACP Legal Defense & Educational Fund, Inc. (LDF). She was trained in juvenile justice advocacy at the Children & Family Justice Center in Chicago.
Professor Nanda earned her B.A. with highest honors from the University of California, Berkeley (1995) and her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law (2001), where she served as Articles Editor of the Law Review. She serves on the Board of Directors for the South Asian Network (SAN), a grassroots, community based organization in Southern California. Professor Nanda has served on the Board of Asian Pacific American Alternative Dispute Resolution Center. She was a founding member of the South Asian Bar Association of Southern California Public Interest Foundation and co-founded 911 Legal Response Network, an anti-hate crimes advocacy group.
