LAW 535 - Negotiation and Conflict Resolution Workshop

Students will participate in a workshop series in which scholars from UCLA and other universities – representing a variety of academic disciplines including business, economics, psychology, and political science, in addition to law – will present their research on topics related to negotiation and/or conflict resolution. Presentations will take place on 8 Thursdays during the semester from 5:30-7:00 p.m. The schedule of speakers will be available on the UCLA Law website at  http://www.law.ucla.edu/negotiation/ by the middle of the fall semester. In weeks between presentations, the class will read and discuss the work that will be presented at future sessions. These sessions will meet Thursdays from 5:30-7:45.  Students will write four papers critically assessing works presented throughout the semester and are expected to be active class participants.  Each student will also have the opportunity to attend one dinner with a speaker. PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A COURSE IN SELECTED TOPICS RELATED TO NEGOTIATION AND CONFLICT.  IT IS NOT A COURSE IN "HOW TO" NEGOTIATE.  THAT COURSE IS LAW 709.

Grades will be based 1/3 on class participation and 2/3 on the papers.  This course will be offered on a letter-grade basis. This seminar will not satisfy the Substantive Analytical Writing requirement.  Enrollment is limited to 16.
