The Office of Career Services helps students define their career goals and equip them with the skills and information necessary for a successful employment search. In their first year, each student is assigned to an advisor (all formerly practicing attorneys) who will act as the student's career counselor throughout the student's three years at UCLA. In addition, the Office is available to alumni in career transition.
The Office also provides expert guidance with resume preparation, interviewing, and job-search strategies. We also facilitate mock interviewing programs, where practitioners assist students with their interviewing skills. In addition, the Office hosts both panel discussions by practitioners about various career paths, and networking receptions for students to interact with attorneys. The Office also coordinates the mentor program, where first year students are matched with alumni volunteering to provide career development advice.
Moreover, the Office counsels, coordinates and facilitates the judicial clerkship application process for students. One counselor is dedicated to advising students who are interested in pursuing post-graduate judicial clerkships. The Office of Career Services also works very closely with the Office of Public Interest Programs in assisting students with information about opportunities within the public interest field.
Beyond counseling, our Office serves as a liaison between students and legal employers. On-campus interviews during both the fall and spring semesters are coordinated by the Office, and close to 400 interviewers visit the campus annually, including law firms, corporations, government agencies, and public interest organizations. Students also participate in off-campus interviews at recruiting conferences and job fairs in other parts of the country. Varied job opportunities, including fulltime, part-time, and summer positions, are posted throughout the year. A Web-based system allows students to check job postings, upload resumes, apply for on-campus interviews, and research employers online.
