This course will provide an overview of disability law, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Specific topics include disability discrimination in employment, public services, public accommodations, housing, and education. The course will approach these areas from both doctrinal and theoretical perspectives, and it will consider large questions about the goals of the disability rights movement, the theory of antidiscrimination law, and the relationship between antidiscrimination and social welfare law. Students will have the option to write a research paper or take an in-class exam. Three credits.
