Law 585 - Seminar: Law and Literature

Print this documentPrint

From ancient times, law and justice have been major themes in many great works of literature. The primary emphasis of this seminar will be the consideration of a number of such works, with an eye toward both what such works can tell us about law and justice, and how elaboration of the law and justice themes can provide insight into the works as a whole. A particular theme in many of the works to be studied will be integrity and responsibility in public and private roles. The seminar will study works by writers such as William Shakespeare, Herman Melville, Joseph Conrad and Robert Penn Warren. Students who plan to enroll in this seminar or are seriously considering doing so are strongly encouraged to speak with Professor Lowenstein as early as possible during the fall semester (310-825-5148).
