John Bauman was executive director of the Association of American Law Schools from 1980 to 1983 and secretary and treasurer of The Order of the Coif from 1983 to 1991. He served as Associate Dean of the UCLA School of Law from 1969 to 1979.

Professor Bauman was notes editor for the Minnesota Law Review. He taught at the University of New Mexico from 1947 to 1954 and at Indiana University from 1954 to 1959.

Professor Bauman's principal scholarly focus is on remedies and procedural subjects. He co-authored Cases and Materials on Remedies (most recently, 5th ed., with York and Rendleman, 1992).
