During the reception, the La Raza Alumni Association honors past recipients of its Cesar Chavez Public Service Fellowships and announces new recipients. Students who receive the fellowship, commit themselves to work full-time in the Latino community during that summer. Last year, two students received the fellowship.
The goals of the reception are several. First, the reception offers alumni both an opportunity to visit with friends that they may not have seen for some time and to meet new colleagues. Just as important, the reception offers students an opportunity to meet alumni. In the amicable atmosphere of the reception, students have the opportunity to learn about alumni's experiences in areas of law in which they might be interested. They also have the opportunity to establish connections with alumni which may lead to later employment.
