Students had fought to secure meaningful input for La Raza in student admissions and recruitment. Unfortunately, with the current shifts in the admissions policies at all UC Law Schools, La Raza no longer plays an integral role in the admissions process. However, La Raza continues to advocate changes to the new admissions policy.
In an effort to maintain a diverse Raza student body, La Raza has shifted its efforts to focus on an aggressive recruitment campaign. La Raza hopes that if a larger number of Raza students apply, then the probability of Raza students admitted will increase.
La Raza bolsters its recruitment efforts by:
Hosting a student of Color
Admissions Workshop for prospective law students. At this workshop learn
about the application process including: personal statements, the LSAT, letters of recommendation,
financial aid and about life as a law student of color. In addition,
students have the opportunity to have their personal statement reviewed by
current law students. During the 2003 Admissions Workshop held on
October 25, 2003, over 175 students from all over the state attended.
Conducting campus tours and providing an opportunity to sit in classrooms w/ first or second year law students.
Serving as a liaison between undergraduate organizations and UCLA Law.
Holding recruitment workshops at undergraduate campuses.
