Congratulations to the UCLA Law alumni who recently passed the bar. We would like to invite you and your guests to join us on Sunday, December 6, 2009, for the UCLA School of Law Sixteenth Annual Bar Swearing-in Ceremony. The ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the UCLA Ackerman Grand Ballroom. Parking will be available in Lot 8 and 9at $10.00 per car. Please give time for parking. There is a basketball game that day so it may take longer to park.
This event rapidly has become a popular, warm and joyous tradition for our most recent law graduates. We hope that you will invite family and friends to witness the ceremony and enjoy the reception, but due to the nature of the admissions requirements for the federal courts, only graduates of UCLA Law will be sworn in.
At our ceremony you not only will be admitted to the State Bar but you also will have the opportunity to be admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Central District of California, and to the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. If you attend our ceremony, you will not need to attend the large ceremony sponsored by the State Bar. We hope that this will not only be a convenient way for you to effectuate your admission, but that it will be a more personal celebration with your classmates and former faculty here on the campus.
Following the ceremony we will have a short reception in the Ackerman Grand Ballroom, while the paperwork process is being completed. The ceremony and reception will last approximately one hour. It is imperative that you bring with you the application form which you will receive by mail from the State Bar. Without it, our ceremony will do you no good! IF YOUR BAR CARD IS ONLY PRINTED ON ONE SIDE, DO NOT WORRY. WE WILL HAVE EXTRA'S. THE STATE BAR HAS CONTACTED US ABOUT THIS.
In addition, should you wish to be sworn in to the Federal Court, you will need to bring one check. To expedite the process, please make the check out in advance, made payable to "UCLA Law Alumni Association" in the amount of $375 ($185 (U.S. District Court for the Central District of California) + $190 (U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit) = $375). This pays for your admission to the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. UCLA will send a single check to the various courts. You will be billed by the State Bar for your state certification.
We very much look forward to celebrating your admission on December 6. If you have any questions about our admission ceremony please contact Kristine Werlinich in Alumni Relations at firstname.lastname@example.org or (310) 206-1766.
