This program provides reality based information on alcoholism, other substance
abuse and addiction. Using his own experiences Jerome (Jerry) Braun will
discuss: the definition of alcoholism and other addictions, the brain
chemistry of addiction and the consequences in the general population with
particular emphasis on the impact upon clients, law firms and lawyers.
Participants will learn the warning signs, intervention and other options and
appropriate actions when confronted by substance abuse issues.
Presenter Jerry Braun is a founder and senior partner in the San Francisco law
firm of Farella Braun & Martel, one of California’s fifty largest firms and
an alcoholic in recovery with seventeen years of sobriety. He has been
practicing for 60 years. He graduated from Stanford Law School in 1953.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, a Fellow of the
American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, a Past President of the California
Academy of Appellate Lawyers and the recipient of the American Inns of Court
Professionalism Award and the Ninth Circuit’s John Frank Award honoring a
senior lawyer distinguishing himself for skill, professionalism and excellence
in the profession and by devotion and contribution to the Ninth Circuit.
Most recently he has been named as the recipient of the Second Annual Hazelden
Excellence in Community Leadership Award for his dedicated and passionate
advocacy for the triumph of recovery over addiction. Jerry will share his
odyssey to and through the ravages of alcoholism and his journey in recovery.

Parking is available for $12 per car in Structure 2.
This activity has
been approved for Minimum Continuing Education credit by the State Bar of
California in the amount of one (1) participatory hour of credit to the
Substance Abuse requirement.
