UCLA School of Law Faculty Member and Alumna to be Honored by National Lawyers Guild

May 19, 2011 -- Cathy Mayorkas, director of Public Interest Programs at UCLA School of Law, will be honored by the Los Angeles Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild for her tireless work on behalf of the law school’s David J. Epstein Program in Public Interest Law and Policy and her commitment to inspiring the next generation of public interest lawyers. She will be presented with the National Lawyers Guild award by UCLA Law Professor Gary Blasi at a reception on Sunday, June 12, 2011 in Pasadena. 
 
UCLA School of Law alumna Mia Yamamoto ’71, a criminal defense attorney, will also be honored at the event for serving as a long-time champion of just causes, and for her current work as defense counsel for immigrant rights protestors.
 
The National Lawyers Guild, founded in 1937, is the oldest and largest public interest/human rights bar organization in the United States.
