Student/Faculty Committees

ACADEMIC SUPPORT COMMITTEE
This committee examines the need for and policies related to academic support programs. This committee will need ONE student.
ADMISSIONS COMMITTEE
Students appointed to this committee are non-voting members of the Admissions Committee who provide written evaluations on approximately 500 applicant files, depending on the year. Participation on this committee is very time consuming. On average, students dedicate about 15 hours per week to reading files. Students are required to read in the Admissions Office and meet weekly deadlines throughout the months of January through April. The Committee needs FIVE students, preferably one from each class. Good judgment, high integrity, and discretion are expected from all Admissions Committee members.
BUSINESS LAW COMMITTEE
Students appointed to this committee will provide recommendations regarding the structure and policies of the Business Law Program and review student waiver petitions. The committee needs TWO students with good judgment and discretion who are currently in the Business Law Program (thus, only 2Ls and 3Ls are eligible).
CAREER SERVICES COMMITTEE
This committee deals with career services and basically anything related to the forums, job fairs, mock interviews, panels, and various other opportunities offered by the Office of Career Services. This committee needs ONE student.
CLERKSHIP/INTELLECTUAL LIFE & ACADEMIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
This committee has two main tasks: (1) creating a more formalized program for getting current students prepared while they are still here for an ultimate career in teaching and (2) improving the overall intellectual environment of the school. This committee needs TWO law students and is not scheduled to meet until October.
CURRICULUM: REFORM & STRATEGY COMMITTEE
This committee is only open to 2Ls and requires a two year commitment. Students will be asked to consider more global and drastic changes to the curriculum such as whether the law school should return to the quarter system.
CURRICULUM COMMITTEE
This committee evaluates policies related to the law school curriculum, and reviews and approves proposed course offerings. This committee proposed and evaluated the change in the grading curve that the faculty adopted at the end of last year. This committee will need THREE students. The curriculum committee will begin meeting right away.
EXTERNSHIP COMMITTEE
The student appointed to this committee will provide student input in the approval process for new externship programs. The committee needs ONE student.
EXTERNAL APPOINTMENTS COMMITTEE
Students appointed to this committee will assist in the interviewing process for new faculty candidates. This will involve interviewing candidates and writing recommendations to the Faculty Appointments Committee, but will not involve actually voting for such candidates. The committee needs THREE students.
LIBRARY AND TECHNOLOGY STUDENT ADVISORY GROUP
The students appointed to this committee will provide student input regarding Library and Technology services and policies. This committee will meet approximately once a month for lunch with members of the Information Systems Department to discuss issues related to the School's existing technology services and to discuss ideas for future services. We are looking for about FOUR students from all class levels, who will be a range of computer users and non-users, so please specify on your application whether you have a computer at home, whether you use a lap-top in class, etc. a background in computers or technology is NOT required although it may be useful.
PUBLIC INTEREST COMMITTEE
This committee addresses a variety of public interest-related issues affecting the school and also serves as the admissions committee for the Program in Public Interest Law and Policy. Students appointed to the committee do not vote on admissions decisions but do provide input on these decisions. This committee is time consuming, especially in the spring semester. Students are required to read files in the Admissions Office and meet weekly deadlines throughout the months of January through April. The committee needs FOUR students, one from each Program in Public Interest Law and Policy class and one non-Program 2L or 3L. Good judgment, high integrity, and discretion are expected from all committee members.
STANDARDS COMMITTEE
This committee is the initial reviewing body for student petitions of waiver of academic procedures and for any requests involving law school policies and academic standards. This committee needs TWO mature students with good judgment and discretion, preferably a 2L or 3L. The committee meets on as as-needed basis, more frequently than other committees.
