NEED MONEY FROM SBA?

  • In order to request funding from SBA, please print and fill out this form. Please follow all instructions.

HOW TO QUALIFY FOR STUDENT FUNDING (FROM SBA AND DEAN'S DISCRETIONARY FUND)

  • Please note that in order to receive SBA funding, you MUST be registered at UCLA's Center for Student Programming. For more information, visit http://www.studentactivities.ucla.edu/index.htm

  • If you would like to request more funding from SBA, and your organization has already approached the Dean and the Center for Student Programming, please attend one of our SBA meetings. Email us about your funding problem at sba.uclaw@gmail.com. Make sure to attend an SBA meeting so that a representative from your organization may explain and advocate your position to SBA officers.

  • Important Dates:

    • Wednesday, September 3rd, at 12:30: There will be a Q & A in Room 1457 about the student organization budget process.  Your treasurer should attend if you have any questions about the budget proposal, which you will be required to submit no later than September 12th if you are planning to apply for Dean’s Discretionary Funds (earlier submissions are highly encouraged).

    • Friday, September 12th, at 12:45: You will need to have three top officers (those who are prepared to be accountable for the organization’s activities) attend a mandatory meeting with law school administrative offices (including Accounting, IT and External Affairs) and the Center for Student Programming in Room 1357.  This will be your “one stop shopping” for all essential information and campus organization registration.  The meeting should last approximately two hours and will save you endless hours of foraging for information throughout the rest of the school year.  Organizations must be represented at this meeting and complete online registration within a week following the meeting in order to be eligible for SBA and Dean’s Discretionary Funds for the year.

  • Important Forms and Information:

  • We need you to complete these forms and provide Dean Cheadle (cheadle@law.ucla.edu) with information about your organization’s mission, goals, plans, calendared activities and budgets for the upcoming year (including all existing and anticipated sources of campus and off-campus funding and plans for fundraising).  As addenda, Dean Cheadle will also need you to provide a statement from the law school’s Accounting Office reflecting funds currently available to you, a copy of the most recent bank statement of any outside bank accounts your organization maintains, and a summary sheet in the sample form attached providing a funding snapshot.

Once the administration has received the information outlined above, a brief budget meeting will be scheduled with each organization to discuss your plans for the year.  Representatives of SBA, Matt Donat from the law school Accounting Office, and Dean Cheadle will attend those meetings.  Tentative funding will be approved early in the semester, but funds will not be released until the student organization registration process has been completed.  Spring semester funding will be contingent upon submission of a written report on Fall  semester activities and the status of planning for Spring semester activities.

Bring all questions you have about this process to the September 3rd information session.
