Technology / Maintenance Issues
SBA is dedicated to making sure students are happy with the facilities at UCLA Law. Below is a list of concerns we have brought and will continue to bring to the administration:
Fall 2008
Technology & Building Maintenance Updates:
SBA’s Tech & Maintenance Committee has been working with the administration to bring you the following improvements:
*double-sided printing in computer labs will now be set as the default. Students are charged 5 cents per double sided page rather than 7 cents per single page! Save a tree and save some money.
*cleaning supplies for the fridge and microwave. Did you know that individual members of SBA take turns cleaning the fridge? That’s right. Fellow classmates have to clean up after you when you don’t! Cleaning supplies will be kept at the information window (next to records) so that students can clean up after themselves. In a community of nearly 1,000 students, taking personal responsibility cannot be over stated.
*bathroom and railing repairs. This is an ongoing process where your input and suggestions are highly appreciated. To bring something in need of repair to our attention, email us at sba.uclaw@gmail.com
*more bike racks. We know finding parking for your car on campus can be a test of your patience, but parking your bike shouldn’t be!
*accessibility in the vending machine room and additional options. We are exploring ways to make this tiny space more accessible and efficient to better accommodate students and backpacks of all shapes and sizes.
Recycling on Campus: We've ordered recycling bins for the first floor classrooms and one for the Shapiro Courtyard. The recycling center for the Shapiro Courtyard and most of the recycling bins for the classroom should arrive soon but the ones for the big classrooms (1347 and 1357) might take awhile because we purchased those from a different vendor.
Spring 2008
- Wireless in the courtyard (students have complained that the wireless in the courtyard is much weaker than last year)
- Wireless in the library - specifically in the mezzanie rooms and conference rooms
- Wheelchair access to microwaves in the vending machine room
- Toilet seat covers in the men's bathrooms
- Hooks and tables in women's bathrooms
- Working lights and electrical plugs on the first floor of the library
- More furniture for students
- Letting students cancel conference room reservations
- Improving the student tech help in the student lab
- Add another microwave and water heater
- Status: received funding for the microwave and water heater - all we need to do is find space to place them.
Have we missed something? Please let us know by emailing us. Please write "Tech/Maintenance Issues" in the subject line.
SBA would like to thank Sean Pine (Assistant Dean for Curriculum and Registration and Chief Information Officer), Donna Gulnac (Director, Access & Information Services), Kevin Gerson (Director, Law Library), Wes Holland (Director of IT Systems), Scott McNight (Information Systems), and all other staff members who have been receptive to our suggestions.
