Organizations Opposed to Affirmative Action and Other Race-Conscious Remedies

Adversity.Net – For Victims of Preferential Treatment

"Answer "YES" if you are not a minority! It is very likely that you've already lost a job, a promotion, or a government contract because of racial quotas. You should be mad as hell. Adversity.Net opposes racial discrimination against anyone, including racial discrimination against non-minorities!
This Web Site is about the very real, costly impact that racial quotas, racial hiring goals, and racial set-asides have on those of us who are denied jobs, contracts, and educational opportunities because we are the "wrong" color (as defined by the federal government)."
[This is quite a site. The message boards are full of misinformation. This is the quintessential angry white male web site!! Check it out!!]

Americans Against Discrimination and Preferences
American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research
"The American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research is dedicated to preserving and strengthening the foundations of freedom— government, private enterprise, vital cultural and political institutions, and a strong foreign policy and national defense— scholarly research, open debate, and publications. Founded in 1943 and located in Washington, D.C., AEI is one of America's largest and most respected "think tanks."

AEI research covers economics and trade; social welfare; government tax, spending, regulatory, and legal policies; U.S. politics; international affairs; and U.S. defense and foreign policies. The Institute publishes dozens of books and hundreds of articles and reports each year, and an influential policy magazine, The American Enterprise. AEI publications are distributed widely to government officials and legislators, business executives, journalists, and academics; its conferences, seminars, and lectures are regularly covered by national television." [See the "Links" area.]

The Ayn Rand Institute

"THE AYN RAND INSTITUTE is the center for the advancement of Objectivism, Ayn Rand's philosophy of reason, egoism, individualism, and laissez-faire capitalism. ARI was founded in 1985 by Ayn Rand's 30-year associate and heir, philosopher Leonard Peikoff. Based in Marina del Rey, California, ARI has spent over $10 million to spread Objectivism. ARI's annual budget now exceeds $1.5 million. ARI's programs are based on the Objectivist tenet that ideas are the motor of history."

On Multiculturalism [this site is found on the home page under "Of Special Interest"] – "Multiculturalism is racism in a politically-correct guise. It holds that an individual's identity and personal worth are determined by ethnic/racial membership and that all cultures are of equal worth, regardless of their moral views or how they treat people. Multiculturalism holds that ethnic identity should be a central factor in educational and social policy decisions. Multiculturalism would turn this country into a collection of separatist groups competing with each other for power.

Multiculturalism is a grave threat to this country. Multiculturalism is a threat to education: instead of encouraging students to question their assumptions and the assumptions of their parents and society, multiculturalism demands that students accept blindly what they're given. Instead of encouraging reason and independent judgment, multiculturalism demands obedience to authority: the authority of the ethnic group. This site is part of the Ayn Rand Institute's mission to challenge the altruist-collectivist ideas underlying much public policy and undermining our rights and liberties."

The Brookings Institution: Center for Public Policy Education
The Cato Institute

"Founded in 1977, the Cato Institute is a nonpartisan public policy research foundation headquartered in Washington, D.C. The Institute is named for Cato's Letters, libertarian pamphlets that helped lay the philosophical foundation for the American Revolution.

The Cato Institute seeks to broaden the parameters of public policy debate to allow consideration of more options that are consistent with the traditional American principles of limited government, individual liberty, and peace. Toward that goal, the Institute strives to achieve greater involvement of the intelligent, concerned lay public in questions of policy and the proper role of government." [Information on affirmative action can be found under "Publications Library" in "Cato Commentaries" for 1997.]

Center for Equal Opportunity

"America remains deeply divided by race. Despite sweeping gains over the last 40 years--the end of public school segregation, broadened opportunities in the workplace and voting booth, the measurable decline of racism--the rift between blacks and whites in many ways has widened rather than closed.

As the only think tank devoted exclusively to the promotion of colorblind equal opportunity and racial harmony, the Center for Equal Opportunity is uniquely positioned to counter the divisive impact of race conscious public policies. CEO focuses on three areas in particular: racial preferences, immigration and assimilation, and multicultural education.
---
Multiculturalists have a firm grip on both elementary and secondary schools and the universities. Their ideology of racial and ethnic difference risks balkanizing our multiracial society. Students who don't speak English are locked away in special programs that try to maintain native languages rather than teach English, often without their parents' consent. In many urban schools, African American students are fed a racialist "Afrocentric" curriculum of dubious merit."

Center for New Black Leadership
The Conservative Digest

"This page is devoted to the cause of furthering conservatism and debunking the lies and distortions of liberalism. To that end, feel free to sample the many links and other resources available here for research and edification: Christianity, Abortion/Euthanasia, Death Penalty, School Choice, 2nd Amendment, Affirmative Action, and Environment."

"Affirmative Action. The mere sound of it brings forth images of fairness and opportunity for all. But is that reality? The whole concept of affirmative action (especially in the educational setting) is to compensate "members" of racially or economically disadvantaged groups for the injustices suffered by their ancestors. Sounds like a noble cause, right? The problem with this thinking is that it ignores the obvious, "races" are not discriminated against, individuals who just happen to have certain physical or economic characteristics are. If it is wrong to discriminate against a black person simply based on the color of their skin, is it any less wrong to discriminate against whites for theirs.

Underneath all the flowery language by proponents of affirmative action is an unescapable truism - affirmative action employs state sponsored discrimination (usually against caucasians or other "non-favored" minorities) to "right" past discrimination. The fact that modern day "whites" may have had no part in past or current discrimination is no "defense" - in effect, a modern day bill of attainder." [This is just a tidbit from the affirmative action area. That area also contains very interesting links. I highly recommend taking a look when you have a chance.]

The Federalist Society

The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to bringing conservative and libertarian ideas into law schools and the organized bar.

The Heritage Foundation

"The Heritage Foundation is committed to rolling back the liberal welfare state and building an America where freedom, opportunity, and civil society flourish. Founded in 1973, The Heritage Foundation is a research and educational institute -- a think tank -- whose mission is to formulate and promote conservative public policies based on the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense." [How Heritage describes itself.]

"The Heritage Foundation was founded in 1973 by Paul Weyrich with support of the ultra-conservative Adolph Coors Foundation. The organization gained prominence in conservative circles with the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980. The foundation provides information to conservative individuals and members of Congress on a host of public policy issues that espouse the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense. The group has assembled a directory of over one hundred organizations that share some or all of the foundation's beliefs." [Heritage as described by socially progressive group.]

Hoover Institution
Independence Institute
Institute for Justice

"Once people turned first to the ACLU whenever government violated their rights. No longer. As that group has fought in recent years to create a right to welfare, to preserve racial preferences, and to prop up the pillars of the welfare state, people have increasingly sought a principled alternative that will protect individual rights rather than expand government. That alternative is the Institute for Justice.

If you seek a courtroom champion for individual liberty, free market solutions, and limited government, look only as far as the Institute for Justice. Welcome to the site of the public interest law firm that's in court on behalf of your rights."

[Interesting site that includes no less than four photos featuring Blacks who I suppose have been "helped" by the IJ. Also, check out "Links." It's a who’s-who of conservative organizations and think tanks.]

Manhattan Institute for Policy Research
Mountain States Legal Foundation (MSLF)

MSLF is a nonprofit, public interest legal center dedicated to individual liberty, the right to own and use property, limited government, and the free enterprise system.   MSLF victories before the U.S. Supreme Court in Wygant v. Jackson Board of Education, 476 U.S. 267 (1986) and Adarand Constructors, Inc. v. Peña, 115 S.Ct. 2097 (1995), have changed race-based decision making by the federal government forever.

Southeastern Legal Foundation

"Founded in 1976, Southeastern Legal Foundation is a public interest law firm which advocates limited government, individual economic freedom, and the free enterprise system. We look for cases in which our involvement can make a difference, not just to the parties involved, but also on the policies or issues that are in dispute.

SLF strives to help individuals and businesses stymied by excessive government regulation. SLF strives to make America work by supporting individual people in local communities doing their jobs, running their businesses, and raising their families. SLF strives to free Americans from government constraints -- When government unduly taxes and restricts individual enterprise in pursuit of social policy, the American system stops working. SLF strives to support the principles of limited government and individual freedom. SLF strives to champion the principles that make the American system work.

The Foundation will devote its resources to ordinary citizens in danger of losing jobs, property, or other rights because they lack the funds for protracted court battles. With your support, Southeastern Legal Foundation can continue to be a conservative voice defending American businesses and families facing all-too-common restrictions by overzealous or unresponsive government agencies. Whether defending small business enterprises or challenging reckless government spending, SLF can continue to help America work." [Check out "Links", it's a who’s-who of conservative public policy organizations, media outlets, government groups, legal resources, and research tools and search engines.]
