The Williams Institute Legacy
Society is a community of donors who share in the vision
of creating an enduring national research center dedicated
to advancing LGBT rights. Members’ gifts build a permanent
revenue source dedicated – in perpetuity – to funding
rigorous, independent research and strategic education
programs about the LGBT community.
Current Legacy Society members
have endowed the first faculty position dedicated to the
study of sexual orientation and gender identity law, as well
as public policy and law teaching fellowships and
scholarships. Charles R. Williams' inaugural donation of
$2.5 million not only created the first LGBT think tank at
an academic institution, UCLA School of Law, but was at the
time the largest donation ever given to any academic
institution in support of a gay and lesbian program.
Through their investments, Legacy
Society members ensure that objective research will
always counter stereotypes about the LGBT community. Their
support guarantees that lawyers, judges and legislatures
will always have the information they need to create
effective policy and to fairly apply the law to protect LGBT
individuals and their families.
Benefits of Membership:
Benefits of membership are tailored to donors’ level of
giving. For major donors, the Institute provides multiple
recognition options, including naming opportunities, as well
as tickets to the Institute’s many educational, promotion
and fundraising events. The Williams Institute also hosts
one or two special receptions each year for Legacy
Society members. By joining the Williams Institute
Legacy Society, donors additionally become members of
UCLA’s First Century Society, and are invited to any
event coordinated by UCLA for First Century Society
members.
