WILLIAM RUBENSTEIN RECEIVES
DISTINGUISHED PROFESSORS AWARD FROM ACLU On Tuesday, June 29, 2004, UCLA School of Law Professor of
Law William B. (Bill) Rubenstein, Chair of the Williams Project Faculty Advisory
Committee, received the Distinguished Professors Award at the ACLU of Southern
California's 10th Annual Law Luncheon.

of UCLA School of Law will be presented with the Distinguished Professors
Award for Civil Liberties Education for his career as an inspirational
teacher and civil rights activist. As an expert on sexuality and law, his
work with gay law and the rights of gay and lesbian people, and those
suffering from AIDS and HIV have been influential in the fight for
equality. As a professor, he has continually strived to teach his students
and others the importance of civil rights and civil liberties. He has
inspired his students, and continues to inspire all of us at the ACLU of
Southern California. We are honored to present Professor Rubenstein with
the Distinguished Professors Award for Civil Liberties Education.

Professor Rubenstein is one of the nation's leading experts on sexual
orientation law. He authored the first law school casebook in the field, has
written and lectured widely on a variety of issues of sexual orientation law,
and is among the nation's most-cited scholars writing about these issues. He has
taught courses on sexual orientation law at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, and UCLA
Law Schools. Prior to becoming a full-time law professor, he represented
lesbians and gay men in federal and state courts throughout the United States.
The Luncheon honored Professor Rubenstein and other leading civil rights and
civil liberties advocates.
