Elizabeth Kukura
2004 Public Policy Fellow

The Williams Project welcomes Elizabeth Kukura to the UCLA School of Law as a 2004-2005 Public Policy Fellow. Ms. Kukura is joining us after completing a M.Sc. in Human Rights from the London School of Economics (LSE). At the LSE, Ms. Kukura focused on international law, women's human rights and sexual orientation policy issues where she produced her Master's thesis on same-sex marriage and the definition of family under human rights law. In London, she also completed a mini-pupilage with Two Garden Court Chambers, a leading British human rights law firm. Ms. Kukura, furthermore, was involved with the LSE LGBT Society.

Born and raised in the Boston area, Ms. Kukura graduated cum laude from Yale University in 2001 with a B.A. in Russian and East European Studies. She has traveled extensively throughout that region. Moreover, at Yale, Ms. Kukura was active with the Yale's Women's Center, the campus home for feminist and LGBT activism, produced undergraduate theatre, and served as an editor for the Insider's Guide to the Colleges, a guidebook published by the Yale Daily News.

Upon graduation, Ms. Kukura spent two years as a legal assistant at Spiegel and McDiarmid, a public interest law firm in Washington, D.C., during which time she was involved in reproductive rights activism. She also worked as a volunteer docent at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Finally, Ms. Kukura has completed internships at Women's Policy, Inc., a non-profit organization in Washington D.C., and at the Bunting Institute of Radcliffe College in Cambridge, MA.
