The Charles R. Williams Project on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy at UCLA School of Law announces a charitable gift of $100,000 from John S. McDonald and Rob Wright. This generous donation will support judicial trainings to educate state and federal judges about current issues in sexual orientation law. This will be the first program of its kind in the county.

The gift, which will be paid out in $25,000 installments over the next four years, will serve to match a similar gift from the Gill Foundation and to encourage other donors to support the Williams Project's efforts to train judges about legal issues impacting LGBT rights.

"John McDonald and Rob Wright have shown great leadership with this gift," says Brad Sears, Executive Director of the Williams Project. "It is safe to say that almost all of the sitting judges today attended law school at a time when courses in sexual orientation law were not offered. We are extremely grateful to Mr. McDonald, Mr. Wright and the Gill Foundation for their support and vision."

"The Williams Project," said Mr. McDonald, "is doing critical work that is necessary for the long term fight towards ending discrimination against gay men and lesbians. By being centered at UCLA School of Law, one of the nation's leading research universities, the Williams Project is uniquely positioned to communicate about gay and lesbian rights with state and federal judges."

Mr. Wright said, "We hope our gift will encourage other people to donate to the Williams Project to support their efforts in training judges about sexual orientation law. This is the first program of its kind in the country."

The Charles R. Williams Project on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy is a national think tank dedicated advancing critical thought in the field of sexual orientation law and public policy. The Williams Project has recently released studies showing that a large number of same-sex couples are raising children in California and that extending marriage to same-sex couples would have a positive impact on the state 's budget.
