The McDonald/Wright Chair of Law This year’s cocktail reception will honor philanthropists John McDonald and Robert Right for their gift of over one million dollars to endow The McDonald/Wright Chair of Law. The McDonald/Wright Chair of Law will be held by a member of the faculty of UCLA Law and the Williams Institute who has distinguished himself or herself in, and demonstrated a dedicated commitment to, research related to sexual orientation law and public policy or a field that advances the understanding of sexual orientation law and public policy. The McDonald/Wright Chair of Law is the first academic chair in the country to this field. The Chair will attract new scholars to the Williams Institute and encourage younger faculty members to pursue their academic interests in sexual orientation issues. Its creation will greatly enhance the work and prestige of the Williams Institute, UCLA Law, and the entire field of sexual orientation law and public policy.
VIP Dinner Immediately after the cocktail reception, David Bohnett and Tom Gregory will host a VIP dinner at their home in honor of John McDonald and Robert Wright, with other notable guests including the Honorable Boris O. Dittrich, Former Dutch Parliament Member, who sponsored the Netherlands’ legislation extending marriage to LGBT couples; the Honorable Barbara A. Madsen, Chief Justice of the Washington Supreme Court, who wrote the Court’s majority opinion against same-sex marriage, and the Honorable Susan Owens, Justice of the Washington Supreme Court, who joined two of the Court’s dissenting opinions in favor of same-sex marriage.
