A panel on the politics of gay marriage legislation in an
election year will take place on May 18, in the Encino
neighborhood of Los Angeles. The panel, hosted by the Valley
Democrats United, the largest Democratic club in the San
Fernando Valley, will be held at the Encino Community Center
at 7 p.m. The topics of discussion include whether marriage
is a civil right or a religious institution and how pending
federal and state legislation on gay marriage will affect
the outcome of the 2004 presidential election. Guest
speakers will be present from such organizations as Log
Cabin Republicans, Equality California, Republican Unity
Coalition, and Brad Sears and Yuval Merin of the UCLA
Williams Project on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy
will be present. The Encino Community Center is located on
the corner of Balboa and Ventura Boulevards.
