Course Description

LAW 303 - Music Industry Law

This course provides a comprehensive overview of the legal, business, and financial aspects of the music business.  It will focus on the representation of artists as a framework for analysis, and will address the countervailing considerations of those with whom the artist conducts business, including both their personal representatives, such as managers, agents and attorneys, as well as those with whom they contract.  The topical approach will address the state-of-the-art with regard to beginning artists as well as established stars.  Topics will include recording agreements, music publishing, touring, merchandising, sponsorships and other key areas.
