Course Description

LAW 651 - Complex Civil Litigation

This course will examine issues relevant to complex civil litigation, with a particular focus on class actions and multidistrict litigation.  Topics to be covered include funding sources for different forms of aggregate litigation; ethical issues in lawyer-driven and multi-client litigation; class certification procedures and requirements; settlement of class actions and multidistrict litigation; and the preclusive effects of class and non-class litigation.  Students enrolled in the course will be required to complete a 25- to 35-page paper.
