July 5, 2016 – UCLA School of Law's Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment will be a beneficiary of Climate Ride 2016, a nationwide multi-day, multi-city charitable bike ride that raises money to benefit organizations working on sustainable solutions to the problem of global warming. All dollars raised for the Institute from the Climate Ride events will be matched by Dan Emmett, chairman of Santa Monica-based Douglas Emmett, Inc. and the founder of the Emmett Institute.

The Emmett Institute, which is dedicated to studying and advancing law and policy solutions to climate change and other environmental problems, will also benefit from the participation of UCLA School of Law alumnus Bruce Catania '84, who will ride on behalf of ‘Team Emmett' in Climate Ride Pacific Northwest 2016. This will be the second Climate Ride for Bruce, who participated with his oldest son in a New York City to Washington D.C. Climate Ride in 2013. Bruce spent last year recovering from lymphoma, and is looking forward to this year's event more than ever, a 300 mile bicycle trek held during August 4th– 9th that will take participants through Washington State's San Juan Islands and Olympic National Park and Canada's Vancouver Island.

"Climate Ride was an extremely rewarding experience—the friendships that I formed with other professionals similarly committed to aggressively addressing climate change made the ride for me," said Bruce. "I want to encourage my fellow alumni to participate in this important initiative, especially now that the law school's Emmett Institute will directly benefit from their support."

Bruce is an investment manager and is interested in becoming more involved in environmental policy-making. He observes that "our generation is leaving a legacy of massive environmental degradation to our children."

In addition to raising funds for the Emmett Institute by creating a Climate Ride donation page, Bruce is offering sponsorships of $1,000 and will ride for the day with the jersey of each sponsor.
