danemmettDan Emmett and Family

A Los Angeles native and avid outdoorsman in California and around the world, Dan Emmett is the Chairman of Santa Monica-based Douglas Emmett, Inc., a fully integrated real estate investment trust (REIT), and one of the largest owners and operators of high-quality office and multifamily properties in Los Angeles and Honolulu. Mr. Emmett and his companies have been known for their leadership in energy conservation since 1990.

The Evan Frankel Foundation

The Evan Frankel Foundation supported the humanities and the environment. The Foundation, led by trustees Ernest Frankel, Leonard Gordon, and Andrew Sabin, was guided in its philanthropy based on Evan Frankel's wishes, upon his death in 1991. Although the Foundation has wound down its affairs, its impact is still strong today. Evan Frankel believed that the purpose of life is to matter, to count, and to stand for something. The Evan Frankel Foundation’s major endowment gift to UCLA Law made it possible for the law school’s environmental law programs to thrive and grow.

The Andrew Sabin Family Foundation

Andrew Sabin, a longtime advocate of environmental issues, is the president and CEO of Sabin Metal Corporation, the largest privately owned precious metals refinery in the United States. Mr. Sabin is a dedicated philanthropist with a strong passion to preserve the environment—air, water, flora and fauna. He is president of the Sabin Conservation Fund and a founding member and president of the South Fork Natural History Museum. His title of “Mr. Salamander” is a result of being responsible for the first documented find in recent history of the endangered Eastern Tiger Salamander.

The Anthony Pritzker Family Foundation

The Anthony Pritzker Family Foundation supports the publication of the Pritzker Environmental Law and Policy Briefs, which provide expert analysis to engage further public dialogue on important issues impacting the environment. Anthony “Tony” Pritzker is an active member of and a leader in the Los Angeles community. He is a managing partner and co-founder of The Pritzker Group, a private investment firm representing Pritzker family interests, and he serves as chairman of AmSafe Partners. Mr. Pritzker is a trustee of the California Institute of the Arts, serves as a Director for Heal the Bay, and is a member of the Dartmouth Board of Overseers. For his stewardship, Tony has received honors from Friends of Sheba Medical Center in Israel, Young Presidents’ Organization, and the Brandeis-Bardin Institute. He established the Anthony Pritzker Family Foundation in 2002, supporting health organizations, human services, and Jewish agencies.

The Shapiro Family Charitable Foundation

The Shapiro Family Charitable Foundation established the Shirley and Ralph Shapiro Chair in Environmental Law. The Shapiro Chair was created to support a legal scholar of the highest academic and professional caliber working to advance the study and practice of environmental law. It is currently held by Ann Carlson. The gift supports teaching, research, and public service activities in this area. Ralph and Shirley Shapiro have also created the Shirley Shapiro Scholarship in Environmental Law.
