UCLA Program on Legal Ethics and the Profession

The UCLA Program on Legal Ethics and the Profession (LEAP), founded in 2016, supports teaching, research and programming on the role of lawyers in a rapidly changing society. LEAP’s mission is to create a forum for practical and scholarly exchange about central challenges of contemporary legal practice, spotlighting professional issues confronting lawyers across different practice areas and regions in the United States and abroad. A key focus of the program is on educating the next generation of ethical lawyers and professional leaders through coursework and special events designed to shed light on complex ethical problems and how experienced lawyers solve them. In addition, LEAP supports research and programming to strengthen lawyers’ commitment to public service, access to justice and the rule of law. Special events have focused on the empirical study of pro bono work and the role of lawyers in social movements.
