Professor Joanna Schwartz Cited in New York Times on Mistrial in Freddie Gray Case

December 18, 2015 – Professor Joanna Schwartz spoke to the New York Times about the trial of William G. Porter, the first of six Baltimore police officers to be tried in the death of Freddie Gray, which resulted in a hung jury. 

Responding to comment that the prosecution had lost, Professor Schwartz said, “This wasn’t a loss, this was a hung jury,” she said. “I don’t take from this that it was a baseless prosecution or a waste of time. It was a difficult case with conflicting evidence.”
