This course is designed for students who will be representing the law school in external trial competitions. The course will provide instruction in trial advocacy and, in each class, students will have opportunities for performance, individualized feedback, and self-assessment. We will explore—and practice through simulation—advanced concepts and techniques, including motions in limine, strategic consideration of raising (or not raising) evidentiary objections, storytelling, direct examination with limited opportunity for witness preparation, voir dire of expert witnesses, raising and responding to evidentiary objections under realistic courtroom time pressure, and performance skills.
