This course will focus on the federal law governing relations between private-sector employers and workers acting collectively through unions. We will study union organizing, collective bargaining between unions and management, the regulation of the economic force that workers and management may use in dispute resolution (including strike, picketing, and lockouts), and the enforcement of collective bargaining agreements. We will also study the structure, function and jurisdiction of the National Labor Relations Board, the agency that administers federal private sector labor law. We will also consider some contemporary issues concerning collective bargaining, such as the rights of atypical and unconventional types of workers to unionize.
