This course is open only to LL.M. students. The class provides an introduction to American Constitutional Law in its historical, social, and political context. It surveys the U.S. Supreme Court's treatment of judicial review, the federal structure, the Commerce Clause, taxing and spending, presidential power, individual rights and the states, economic regulation, and equal protection. Strategies for analyzing Constitutional Law questions on the California and New York bar examinations will also be emphasized.
