Reference Reading Room
The Reference Reading Room, located just past the central stairway on the Main floor of the library, contains general reference materials such as directories, dictionaries and citation manuals. It also includes finding tools, such as indexes to periodical literature, various government publications including statistics and municipal ordinances, a set of West’s California Codes, and our self-help law collection which includes many Nolo publications. Several public computers are also available in this room for accessing the UCLA Library Catalog, Shepard's Citators (now available only online from two computers within this room), and for other research purposes.
The Reference Desk is located in the Reference Reading Room. Reference staff and services are scheduled to meet the needs of the Law School community and hours change according to school sessions. Current Reference Desk Hours are available on the Hours page. Reference Librarians can help you locate specific titles and identify and use appropriate legal sources, as well as, provide a general overview of the law library's information systems, services, and collection. In addition, they can often advise you on the use of electronic resources, such as the Internet and any of the databases subscribed to by the Library.
The library staff has compiled a number of online research guides, which include the locations of materials within the law library and also lists locations of materials on LexisNexis, Westlaw and the Internet where available. These guides are available online at http://libguides.law.ucla.edu.
