Professor Schwartz Cited in Wall Street Journal Article on Rising Costs of Police Misconduct Cases

July 16, 2015 – Professor Joanna Schwartz is cited in a Wall Street Journal article regarding the rising payouts for police-misconduct settlements across the United States. Large metropolitan cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia are self-insured, which means that payouts for misconduct come directly out of city funds.

 Her comments are cited on the Madam Noire and Newsworks websites as well.

"It is almost unheard of that officers pay out of their own pockets," according to a 2014 study on police liability by Joanna Schwartz, a UCLA law professor.
