July 13, 2015 –- Professor Eugene Volokh is cited in a Washington Post article on polygamy as the next big topic in the marriage debate, following the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision to legalize same-sex marriage.
Since majority of public opinion doesn’t address why same-sex marriage should be limited to two individuals, polygamy has returned to the spotlight, says Eugene Volokh, UCLA Law professor and blogger at The Volokh Conspiracy.
“I think the argument for requiring the government to recognize polygamous marriage isn’t ridiculous, but I doubt that the court will buy it,” Professor Volokh said. “The policy arguments against polygamous marriages are pretty strong.”
