Professor Adam Winkler Talks to Fox News Radio About Whether Smart Guns Can Significantly Reduce Gun Violence or Accidents Over Short Term

November 3, 2015 – In an interview on “The Alan Colmes Show” on Fox News Radio, Professor Adam Winkler talked about whether smart-guns – outfitted with technological safety features – can significantly reduce gun violence or accidents today.

“There is a technological difficulty with smart guns, which is that it might be a great idea to offer gun owners the opportunity today to buy a smart gun, so they’ll be safe in the future, but there’s 320 million guns already out there in America, and they don’t have smart gun technology,” said Winkler.  “I think the idea that it would significantly reduce gun violence or accidents is not right, at least for the short-term; maybe in 30 or 40 years, when we cycle through a lot of the supply and inventory of guns.”
