Professor Hiroshi Motomura Quoted by Associated Press on President Obama’s Use of Executive Power to Get Past Republican Opposition in Congress

December 11, 2015 – Professor Hiroshi Motomura was quoted in an Associated Press article about President Obama’s use of executive power to get past Republican opposition in Congress. In 2012 and 2014 the President ordered federal immigration authorities to not deport certain groups of immigrants living in the U.S. illegally; such use of executive power has triggered debate about the balance of power between the executive branch and congress.   

Professor Motomura told the Associated Press that power has been used by all presidents on a broad range of issues, but rarely has a president called a news conference to announce it or created a formal system to use it.
