Professor Winkler Speaks to The Guardian on Open-Carry Gun Laws and The Old West

January 1, 2016 – Professor Adam Winkler spoke to The Guardian on how gun rights advocates and lawmakers, by proposing open-carry gun laws, may think they are turning back the national clock to a time when Americans lived closer to the land, defended themselves from harm and lived more independently, are actually enacting a false notion of the Old West. 

“Frontier towns had more restrictive gun laws,” said Professor Winkler. “When you rode into town you checked your guns with the marshal, and you could pick them up again later when you left town.”
