Professor Neil Netanel Discusses New Book on the History of Jewish Copyright Law at Royce Hall

March 4, 2016 -- Professor Neil Netanel, Pete Kameron professor of law, has just published From Maimonides to Microsoft: The Jewish Law of Copyright Since the Birth of Print (Oxford University Press, March 2016) on the rich history of Jewish Copyright Law.  

Tracing the emergence of and historical development of Jewish copyright law, Professor Netanel places Jewish copyright law in the context of the Jewish book trade and describes the precariousness of Jewish communal autonomy and the influence of modern copyright law and of secular and papal book privileges on key rabbinic rulings.

Professor Netanel discussed his book in a lunchtime presentation at UCLA’s Royce Hall on March 1st.
