Ethan Elkind Writes Op-Ed for Sacramento Bee on How California Can Meet its Energy Efficiency Goals

April 6, 2016- Ethan N. Elkind, director of the Climate Change and Business Program at the UC Berkeley and UCLA Schools of Law, published an op-ed in the Sacramento Bee on how creating efficient commercial buildings are key to achieving long term energy saving goals in California. The report, “Power the Savings,” (w/ link to Power the Savings Report), finds that regulators should encourage investor-owned utilities to create energy-saving projects in light of the emergence of technologies that can measure the amount of energy buildings save.

 “Ultimately, the state will need to rethink the complex, consumer-financed energy-efficiency model and move toward simpler approaches that rely on emerging technologies,” writes Elkind.
