Professor Eagly Addresses Importance of Having Public Defenders in U.S. Immigration Court in University of Oxford Faculty of Law Blog

April 18, 2016-- Professor Ingrid Eagly addressed the benefits, legal and otherwise, of having public defenders in U.S. Immigration Court in a  post,“Public Defenders Are Needed to Ensure Justice in Our Immigration Court System,” for The University of Oxford Faculty of Law blog. 

“Using government funding to provide legal representation would not be unprecedented,” writes Eagly. “Appointing lawyers at government expense would not only be the right thing to do, but it could also help our overburdened immigration courts to function more efficiently and reduce our country’s dependence on incarceration to manage the migration crisis.”
